Wow – as of last night our roof, sky-lights and fascias are all finished. The significant building works started in August 2019 and were due to be completed in November 2019. However, due to very wet weather the roof team lost 59 days of work and despite often working at the weekends the project has been delayed by two months. The old roof, originally laid in 1977 became a patch-work-quilt of repairs and required an army of buckets to catch leaks. Had it not been for our academy status, as a member of the GFM, we would not have been in a position to replace the roof; we had been seeking one for many years pre-GFM. Not only are we now leak proof, looking super smart and have air vents to keep us cooler in the summer, the insulation will keep us warmer but reduce heating bills – great for the environment.

With thanks to all who have been involved with this project including: the roofing team who have worked closely with the school to minimise disruption and noise, the GFM Estates Team, our very own Site Assistant and other personnel who have worked behind the scenes to ensure a successful project. The roof have been great on site and have been an extension to our team. To say thank you, we provided them with a mini-tea party. With thanks to some of our Gomer Reps for hosting this.
The scaffolding will be removed at the weekend when the site is vacant of children so we can look forward to seeing the full impact on Monday.
