Yesterday, Gomer attended the UK’s longest-running science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) roadshow, the BAE Systems Roadshow at Bay House. The roadshow, which we have attended for nine years, brought its electrifying 2024 program to Goemr Junior and Y7 and Y8 at Bay House.

This interactive experience, delivered by the Education Programme at BAE Systems, the Royal Navy, and the Royal Air Force, captivated Year 7 and 8 students, along with all of Gomer Junior and Rower Junior’s pupils. Launched in 2005, the BAE Roadshow is a national program designed to spark excitement in STEM subjects for students aged 10 to 13.

The “Electricity” themed roadshow offered a fun and educational exploration of this essential resource. Students learned how electricity is generated, how it works, the difference between conductors and insulators, and its crucial role in our world.

This engaging presentation wasn’t just informative, it was interactive! Students and staff participated in quizzes, tackled exciting challenges like building circuits and powering windmills, and even experienced the electrifying power of the Van Der Graff Generator.

The BAE Roadshow’s visit was a resounding success, sparking curiosity and igniting a passion for STEM in the students of Bay House, Brune Park, Gomer Junior, and Rowner Junior. Who knows, maybe this electrifying experience will inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators!
