After sorting through all our packing and getting up to date with the washing, we can finally write our travel blog about our Y4 travels! What a busy week it was! From Madrid, we inter-railed to Germany which took us roughly 22 hours.

From Berlin, Germany’s capital, we made our way south to the Black Forest which is in southwest Germany, bordering France. We learnt that the Black Forest is a mountainous region, full of evergreen forests and picturesque villages. It is renowned for its cuckoo clocks produced in the region since 1700s.
As we were in the Black Forest, we couldn’t leave without making a Black Forest Dessert. Measuring, mixing and dividing the chocolate sponge mix was great fun and Dee, our cook, very kindly baked them for us. Below are a few photos of the Y4 Bake Off! #

Ready for the oven
As all of this travelling had made us very hungry, we started exploring the Oktoberfest Festival which was first celebrated in Munich in 1810 in honour of Prince Ludwig’s marriage. A special part of this food festival is to cook and serve different sausages, whilst listening to lots of German folk bands playing lots of different music.
We decided to host our own ‘Sausage Festival!’ German music was playing, bunting was hoisted up around the classrooms and the children all experienced food critiquing different sausages based on: texture, taste, smell, appearance and personal opinions. We had over 30 different types of sausages! Thank you for providing such a selection!
Finished off with our decorated Black Forest Cupcakes!
We really needed half term for a well early rest after all the travelling!
Iceland is next on our itinerary… maybe you could explore what Y4 could learn about there?
