We love the arts at Gomer and are always keen to improve our skills – children and adults. With a focus on our ArtsMark work, we were delighted to be recently visited by Maggie Cochran, a local artist to Gosport, who provided a workshop for our Y6 pupils and training for the staff team. Maggie produces stunning abstract, contemporary landscapes – often without paintbrushes. We are planning on working more with Maggie and have been inspired by her passion for art and creativity. The children’s work samples evidence this superbly. Thank you Maggie.
Maggie said, ‘I am lucky enough to live and work by the sea, a constant source of inspiration. I am essentially a landscape painter who likes to work in a slightly abstracted fashion while still retaining a sense of place. Capturing light and a sense of the fragility and transience of our natural landscape is important to me. I have come to realise that for me painting is all about capturing the moment, the light and the feeling of being by the sea – a place that always makes me feel alive.’
The art critic Bomberg once said : “Don’t paint what you see in front of you but paint what you feel around you”
