Today, Year 3 experienced the excitement of Kathakali story telling through the expert guidance of The Kala Chethena Kathakali Company. The children learnt about the origins of the classical dance drama of Kerala, South India and how elaborate sequences of movement  can be used to retell tales from Hindu mythology.
This afternoon, the whole school watched two amazing dance performances. The first, performed by Bhagya, was a Bharathanathyam dance about the Hindu God Krishna. The second, by Vijay, a world famous Kathakali actor, retold the moral story of how Krishna offers salvation.
The whole experience left children and adults mesmerized – a truly unforgettable experience. A superb experience linked to our Hindu RE learning. The performers commended the children for their superb questions and respect of the dance and costumes.
With thanks to the company for the use of two of the photographs company.
