We are encouraging its pupils to jump on their bikes and scooters for The Big Pedal, which starts today, 18 April and runs to 9 April 2016, a national challenge organised by charity Sustrans which aims to get more children active. Hundreds of thousands of pupils are expected to take part in The Big Pedal 2016, an inter-school competition which challenges children to cycle and scoot to school. The Big Pedal is now the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scooting challenge, and is funded by the Bicycle Association on behalf of the cycle industry through its Bike Hub scheme.

Gomer Junior school took part for the first time last year, encouraging over 60% of children and staff to use pedal power to get to and from school.  They are aiming for 75% this year!Bikeit! Ray asked Mrs Bottriell, our Bikeit! Champion, to help launch The Big Pedal in a big way this year. Mrs Botriell reported,

‘Always up for a new challenge, of course we said yes. After discussion with the Bikeit! Crew we decided that all children at school should be involved and that a BIG collage, filmed from above would be a fantastic way to launch the Big Pedal this year and help encourage children to cycle to school.’

Please see our collage – in The Hall and from the air…
