The Importance of Sleep

Last week, the NHS Mental Health Support Team led a great assembly about the importance of sleep. These were the top tips following the assembly on the importance of sleep and rest:
1. Organise a bedtime routine: – what time will you go to bed? (this should be the same time each night and should allow you to get between 9 and 12 hours sleep)- what will you do before bed to help you relax and get ready for sleep? Some suggestions are : having a bath; reading a book; maybe a body scan – like we tried in assembly – here is a link
2. Make sure your room is a comfortable temperature for you to sleep.
3. Keep your room tidy and make sure your bed is made so that it is comfy and inviting.
4. Avoid screen for at least 30 minutes before bed as the lights from them stimulates our brain and so stops us from being able to fall asleep.

The children asked some questions…
What happens if my younger sibling doesn’t want to go to bed and keeps me awake? Try getting your younger sibling to take part in your bedtime routine (be a role model and set an example for them). You could also read to your younger sibling as part of this routine, so that you both wind down ready for sleep while also getting some quality time to relax before bed.
What if I wake from a nightmare and can’t get back to sleep? Turn your bedside light on and read a few pages of your book to get your mind thinking about something else (this will also help your eyes feel tired). You can then go back to sleep.
My pet stays in my room – it wakes me up in the night – what can help? Maybe the pet needs to be located in a different room so they don’t make a noise or fidget, which wakes you up? It is important to try and get as much interrupted sleep as possible.

March Online-Safety Newsletter

In today’s ever evolving technical world, keeping our pupils safe online is always at the forefront of our minds. As a school, we play a vital role keeping our pupils safe online. Parents/carers have an important role to play also. We appreciate that it can be difficult to know exactly what you can do to help your children navigate this world safely – especially as there are changes and advances happening all the time. As such, we will be sending an Online Safety Newsletter every month with up to date tips and advice to support you in your role. These will be e mailed to all our families and shared on our website too. We hope that you find this information useful. Please do refer any enquires to our Computing Leader, Mrs Thurston.
