Happy Lunar New Year! In China, it is referred to as the ‘Spring Festival’ (春节 – chūnjié), as spring marks the beginning of a new year. 2024 marks the commencement of the year of the Wood Dragon, starting on February 10th, 2024 (Chinese Lunar New Year) and concluding on January 28th, 2025. Dragon is the 5th animal in the Chinese zodiac. Recent Dragon years include 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024, and 2036. For the past week, Mrs Mawby has been helping the children celebrate the Lunar New Year through our Mandarin lessons. Each year group has explored the story of the 12 Chinese Zodiacs and 2024 Year of the Dragon. Through STEM, Art, and Language. Year 3 produced dragon masks, Year 4 designed dragons and fortune tellers, Year 5 made puppet dragons and Year 6 made fortune cookies and Chinese symbols for the dragon. Our heartfelt wishes extend to you and your family:

恭喜发财 — May happiness and prosperity abound! (gōng xǐ fā cái /gong-sshee faa-tseye/)

阖家欢乐 — May joy encompass your entire family! (hé jiā huān le)

龙年大吉 — Wishing you abundant luck in the Year of the Dragon! (Lóng nián dàjí)
