Looking for something to do this summer? We are keen for as many children as possible to enter the FREE summer reading challenge which you can access at the Discovery Centre in town. Nicola, one of the librarians, came to talk to us all about it just a couple of weeks ago. This year’s sports theme ‘Ready, Set, Read!’ celebrates the excitement of sports and games, and aims to promote healthy habits as well as a love of reading. The challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to read six books over the summer holidays and take part in fun activities that promote physical and mental well-being.

Once they have signed up for the challenge and started reading, children can collect stickers to add to their special Summer Reading Challenge collector card. All children who sign up to take part will be entered into a prize draw to win a Samsung Galaxy tablet and those who complete the challenge will also receive a certificate and a sustainable medal made of carved wood.

Throughout the school holidays libraries will also be working with Commotion Dance and The Spring to offer fun, free interactive storytelling sessions across the county. For more information about the range of regular activities and to book onto one of the summer events visit the libraries events website
