Well, last night, the badgers did NOT disappoint. The children were super quiet going to the hide in group and were lucky enough to see up to four badgers and some foxes! It was an incredible experience to see them so closely.
This morning started a little later than yesterday, with most rooms needing to be woken by Big Team Gomer! After packing (or squishing) everything back into our bags and stripping the beds it was time for our final breakfast and final activity: orienteering for Group A and the small mammal study for Group B. Group A enjoyed exploring the conservation area by following a route with compasses, even though taking bearings was tricky work when we were feeling very tired! Group B were delighted that they’d caught a long tailed field mouse and a vole in their mammal hotels, and showed off their scientific knowledge when studying them. The groups who caught the mouse and vole then set them free again in the exact spot that they were found. After our last meal at lunchtime, we were all exhausted, happy, full and ready to go home.  Year 5 were truly fantastic, and Big Team Gomer are incredibly proud of the children’s resilience, teamwork, kindness towards each other and sense of adventure. Well done Year 5 and have a restful half term. With thanks to our families for supporting us – Team Gomer were super grateful for all of the ‘thank yous’ at collection time, acknowledging the huge amount of time big Team Gomer provide to have made this opportunity possible. The children’s smiling faces and memory making makes the hard work all worthwhile.
