We’re not sure who enjoyed WBD more – big Team Gomer or little Team Gomer. Please look at the gallery to see how much everyone enjoyed the day.

Our World Book Day has been a huge success and we have been thrilled to see children enjoying books in their classes through performance poetry, audio books, story dice, illustration and much more. Many children chose to dress up as book characters and some dressed up their veggies instead. Both were a delight and they really showed the range of books our pupils are now reading. Thank you for supporting this from home.

Big Team Gomer dressed up as characters from books which are now considered Children’s Classics, including characters from Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, Charlotte’s Web, Mary Poppins, Pippy Longstocking, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Using their costumes as a stimulus, you may wish to read some of these books with your child and re-live fond childhood memories you may have of reading them yourself as a child.

Our Big Booky Breakfast this morning was very popular with over 160 children choosing to join us to enjoy their breakfast whilst tucking into a good book. The children particularly enjoyed picture books, graphic novels and magazines, as these were manageable whilst nibbling their pastries. It would be great if this started a good habit with children at home too.

Many thanks to the FROGJS who are funding the Usborne goody bags which your child will be coming home with for your child to enjoy. They include a fun reading activity, scratch art bookmark, sweet treat and puzzle.

Every child was sent home with a £1 World Book Day Token. There are 12 titles available which your child can receive for free (available from booksellers displaying the World Book Day logo) with your £1 Book Token. Or they can have £1 deducted from another book of their choice. Alternatively, with thanks to Mrs Kidd, our Librarian, you can now turn your voucher into £2 off, if you wish to purchase any book from the Usborne range. To do this, you need to browse online following the link here, then put the correct cash into an envelope with your child’s name, class and book order (and the voucher) and hand it in to the school office. We will then manage your order with Usborne and deliver the book to you, at school, for you ASAP. What a bargain!
