During their RE lessons, Year 4 have been learning about the concept ‘anticipation’, in relation to advent and the different ways Christians prepare for Christmas. The children have also learnt about the symbolism of an Advent Wreath. Continuing the candle theme, Year 4 participated in a Christingle yesterday at St. Mary’s Church. This is an annual event and one we enjoy very much. The service reminded the children about the symbols of the Christingle and how this related to their own lives. Mrs Mulhall gave a talk. We reflected also on how we can feel scared or lonely in the dark. Thinking about everything that makes us feel warm and fuzzy made us all feel warm – just like the light of the Christingle which each child made. The children read the prayers beautifully and despite the awful weather we enjoyed our time of reflection, together, very much. With thanks to Asda for providing the oranges and sweets for our christingles, the Rev. Andy for hosting our Christingle and to Paul Pilott for being our musical accompaniment.
