In their science lessons, Year 4 have been learning all about teeth – they can now identify the different types of teeth in humans and their simple functions. The principal focus of science learning in Year 4 is to enable the children to broaden their scientific view of the world around them. They should do this through exploring, talking about, testing and developing ideas about everyday phenomena. The children loved their egg experiment which set about investigating which liquid would harm the shell of an egg the most. The children hypothesized that the coca-cola would harm the shell of the egg the most. However, the investigation results highlighted that the orange juice was the most harmful. The children then looked into the ingredients of both drinks to ascertain why the harm was caused. The children certainly considered different options of drinks in order to keep their teeth healthy – unlike the outer of the poor egg that had been immersed in orange juice!
