Today, Saturday, May 8 marks 76 years since VE Day as the United Kingdom commemorates the end of the Second World War in Europe. VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) is the day on which Allied forces formally announced the surrender of Germany, which brought the Second World War to a close in Europe. Due to the pandemic public celebrations will not be able to take place, much like the 75th anniversary in 2020. This is our second restricted VE Day. Last year, as a community, we shared our numerous celebrations, which, were held outside and in the glorious sunshine. The weather is a bit different today! As a community, we commemorate the sacrifices our armed forces, and communities at home, made during the Second World War. We also take some time today to be thankful for our families who are currently serving in the armed forces.
