We are excited to be able to offer an exciting Coding opportunity to our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils this half term. Coding and programming is part of the Computing curriculum, and in KS2, pupils are taught how to write codes and programme using block based programmes, such as Scratch. We use a range of different ‘robots’ at Gomer Junior School, including Ollies, Spheros, Crumbles, Microbits and Lego Mindstorms.
However, we have been approached by a company called Holoscribe, who are offering a fantastic opportunity for Year 5 and 6 pupils to learn how to programme using HTML coding. We are really grateful to Jim Powell (one of our parents) for offering this to us and we are looking forward to learning along with the pupils.
This is an ‘opt-in’ opportunity, that will be taught remotely. The video link sessions will take place on a Friday at 10:00 – 10:30, and will take place with Mr Powell, his collegue Ben and Mrs Thurston and Mr Mulhall (AHT for Systems and IT across the GFM). To opt-in to this fantastic opportunity, pupils need to look on their Google Classroom pages for the post by Mrs Thurston, where it will explain more about what they will be doing, and how to join. We look forward to seeing lots of children take advantage of this.
Who knows, maybe the next top web designer is in our midst?
