In our whole school assembly yesterday and during lunchtime today we thought about Lent. Lent is a period of reflection and preparation in the run up to Easter. Lent 2020 starts tomorrow. The 40 days and 40 nights of Lent can be marked by fasting from both food and festivities, hence why pancakes are eaten on Shrove Tuesday – to eat all the goodies. Many people give something up during Lent as a sign of sacrifice, alongside testing their self-discipline. We discussed this yesterday and also challenged ourselves as a community to use the period of Lent to ‘take something up’ for Lent. We thought about good deeds or using the time to ‘turn over a new leaf’ – a bit like the pancakes we flipped (Mr Potter was the best at this). We enjoyed pancakes at lunchtime today too – thank you Dee. They were delicious!
