Therapy Dogs are dogs who are trained to provide affection, comfort and love to people and to help them with their focus. Interestingly, the use of dogs for therapeutic reasons has been demonstrated by many people over the last few centuries, including Florence Nightingale, Sigmund Freud, and Elaine Smith. Therapy Dogs are being used more and more in schools. We are delighted that Mrs Morey (who used to be a TA at Gomer) has volunteered to bring her dog, Millie, into school to work with some of our children from September. Millie joined us today for the first time today for her induction and to gather some thoughts from the children. Millie really enjoyed her visit – as did the children – very much. Moving forward, we are aiming for Millie to not only support our children with their learning and feelings be enable children who may feel scared of dogs (partly why we are a dog free site) stop feeling nervous around them. Therapy Dogs and their owners receive significant training and are monitored by an external provider before they work in an organisation. You can look forward to seeing Millie more in school – thank you Mrs Morey for working with us again.
