Our JRSO Team (Junior Road Safety Offciers) and our JRSO Champion (Mrs Bottriell) attended a regional Modeshift  STARS award ceremony in London today. Mrs Mulhall was very pleased to have been invited too; both staff members could not be prouder of how well the JRSOs represented the school. The whole community is delighted that the JRSOs work has been recognised and is always keen to support new and existing initiatives to continue with sustainable travel methods and to keep us safe when out and about. In the Summer Term 2018 we were the first school in Gosport to obtain a gold Modeshift STARS award. Modeshift STARS is the national schools awards scheme that has been established to recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel. The scheme encourages schools across the country to join in a major effort to increase levels of sustainable and active travel in order to improve the health and well-being of children and young people. We have done this in so many ways. Gomer Junior were 1 of 3 schools in Hampshire nominated by HCC for a regional award. This is an AMAZING achievement. Only 80 schools in the whole of the country of 1500 schools are nominated annually so we were thrilled. Although Gomer were not the over-all winner of the South Coast region, the school are VERY proud of all that has been achieved. And we will continue with our good endeavours. The school is committed to our many sustainable travel related projects.
Following a superb awards ceremony in which our very own Suzie helped to entertain the audience, the JRSO enjoyed a very special day out in London. The children loved the Everyman Cinema venue for the awards and lunch and then travelled to Covent Garden and the National Transport Museum. The photos below capture a fun and well deserved day.
