Today, the Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP, Minister of State for School Standards visited Gomer Junior. Caroline Dinenage, MP, asked Mr Gibb to visit. Caroline has always been very positive about our gSTEM curriculum. She visited us at the end of our first term of STEM teaching and is fully aware of the importance of a broad curriculum. Furthermore, the need for primary learners to access STEM learning. Caroline was very keen for Mr Gibb to visit – as were we!
Mr Gibb was very impressed with our school and described our curriculum offer as ‘excellent’. During the visited, led by our Heads of School, Mr Gibb talked to lots of our community, attended a lesson in every year group and observed: brass, Mandarin (Team Gomer are learning too with support from Bay House), PE, the Gomer Grower, interventions and lots of gSTEM. Our children were able to  showcase their learning, teach him about Micro: bits, eloquently outline why STEM is important in a primary school and talk about Engineering Habits of Mind. We were also joined by an official who is responsible for the curriculum overview for science teaching in our country. Our STEM Ambassador, Prof. Adrian Oldknow joined us too and was delighted to meet the Flitetrak MD who is supporting our wider curriculum opportunities.
Team Gomer are very proud of our school – and rightly so. The team were further proud of the children today who showcased many of the attributes that make Gomer such a super school. Today’s visit by a senior government minister outlines how leading edge our national award winning gSTEM is. Mr Gibb left us with a ‘make take’ made by the children with the help of our 3D printer – a gSTEM key ring. You can see this pictured below.
