As the Football World Cup 2018 has begun, we danced through different countries on our ‘Road to Russia!’ as part of our Curriculum PE on Friday 15 June. The progression from translating ideas from stimuli into movement with support, demonstrating rhythm and spatial awareness and improvising with confidence and exaggerating dance movements and motifs (using expression when moving) based on their chosen country was the aim of the day.
Each class participated in a choreographed dance workshop , lead by Barry from Education Group, focusing on specific traditional moves, with the outcome of performing in the dance show as as whole school in the afternoon.
Starting with the lower school, 3CG hip hopped us off – showing body pumps using body control. 3LW learnt colourful beats based from the Ivory Coast and showed amazing rhythm.
Our journey continued to Mexico – Arriba, where 4VW showed a range of zumba and salsa, alongside a very similar style of dancing from 4AB, who translated precise moves Spain.
We jumped back to Ghana with 5PM who took specific routines from animal movements and zoomed to Japan with 5MD, who showed a range of movements mirroring traditional fishing of the nets.
Partner work was excelled in Germany when 6ST showed playfulness, creativity and expression in their movements. Our destination was reached by an amazing performance by 6MW who showed a traditional Russian dance. Their Russian kicks were superb!
The children were fantastically well behaved and enjoyed challenging themselves to learn their routines in such a short space of time and then pushing themselves further to perform in front of an audience.
The teachers, who obviously felt inspired by the children’s performances, took to the stage and danced to a hip hop ‘dance-off’ Barry led! Mrs Duffy was the overall winner showing some fantastic moves and skill – watch out Strictly! The video may be released at some point…
Well done Gomer for your effort and enthusiasm!
