To kick start this year’s anti-bullying week, Gomer Junior School were lucky enough to get a special visit from Chris Lubbe, former bodyguard for Nelson Mandela.

Chris shared many inspirational stories: from his early childhood, growing up in a ghetto in Durban; living through the horrors of ‘apartheid’ South Africa; his involvement with one of the most influential men in modern history (Nelson Mandela) and his more recent work championing children’s Rights, Respect and Responsibility (RRR).

Children at Gomer Junior got the chance to ask Chris questions about his life, but also began to make links to our own quest to stamp out bullying closer to home.

Over the course of the day pupils were involved in creating their own class ‘Beat Bullying Shields’ and preparing creative ways to share our message that bullying is not welcome!
